How To Become A Lawyer In Minnesota
It doesn’t matter if you go to Hamline University or the University of Minnesota Law School, Minnesota is one state that graduates a large amount of new attorneys each year. With so many law school options available Minnesota is a great state to enroll into law school.
Below is a more in depth process of exactly what it takes to become a lawyer in the state of Minnesota.
Even before applying and enrolling into a Minnesota law school you will need to acquire a undergraduate degree from an accredited four year university. No specific degree is required but there are some suggested pre-law school courses that can be beneficial. Focus on building up an impressive GPA and score as high as you can on the LSAT.
Go through the law school application process to get accepted into the law school of your choice. The two main factors will be your LSAT score and undergraduate grade point average. This doesn’t mean you should not put effort into your essays as they do play a role too.
Upon admission to law school you will need to once again obtain a high GPA. Future employers will look for factors that set you apart from all your other fellow graduates. Grades and legal experience will be two main factors. With that said, you will likely want to get a part time position within the legal industry. Attempt to find a job or even an internship in the field you would like to practice. Not only will this build experience but could be a good relationship to build as you could one day be working full time at this location.
Upon graduation from law school you will need to pass the bar exam before you will be able to be sworn in as an attorney legally able to practice law in the state of Minnesota. The bar exam is a two day exam which makes up of an essay portion and multiple choice. Pass this exam and you will finally cross the finishing line and sworn in as licensed attorney. Congratulations!
